Psyonix ending Linux and macOS support for Rocket League

Update (2020-01-24 08:32): A Psyonix employee commented on Reddit to contact their customer support at https://support.rocketleague.com/ for refund requests. Though, given the history of devs offering Linux users refunds, don't expect this to go smoothly.

In a news post today, Psyonix announced that official support for Rocket League on both mac and Linux systems will be shelved. This comes only 8 months after Epic Games' purchase of the development studio and is a not-so-unexpected surprise, as much of of the Linux gaming community had anticipated that this may happen.

According to Psyonix's support page, Rocket League on Linux will receive a final patch in the beginning of march. Following this patch, offline features will still be accessible but many of the online modes like matchmaking will cease to function. There was also no mention of possible refunds for players affected by this change.

Proton/Wine is mentioned in the support page as possible option for players, since currently Rocket League runs quite well in Wine. But it is not an officially supported solution and could break in the future. This could potentially be an issue if Psyonix decides to integrate Easy Anti-Cheat, which has trouble running in Wine, and also happens to be an Epic Games product.

This is definitely a disappointment as I'm sure many Linux gamers have enjoyed playing Rocket League on their OS of choice for over 3 years.
