Epic Games purchases Psyonix the Rocket League developers

As I'm sure you've heard by now, Psyonix has said that they are going to be acquired by Epic Games before the end of the month, subject to some conditions.

According to the press release they will continue selling Rocket League on Steam, at least in the short term. In the long term, it still remains unclear if it will continue to be sold on Steam. However, Psyonix has said that support for current Rocket League owners on Steam will continue indefinitely. Whether this also includes Linux support or not hasn't been said.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, and the Linux gaming community have a bit of a difficult relationship to say the least. He has been rather outspoken on Twitter about his indifference towards games on Linux in the past. This makes a lot of people, including myself, nervous about the Epic Games store gaining PC market share as it could mean fewer games for Linux.

For now at least, Rocket League remains on Steam so try and get your fill, it may not stay forever.
