Valve confirm they're working on Dota Auto Chess

In an official blog post yesterday, Valve has confirmed that they are working on their own standalone version of Dota Auto Chess. This is independent from, but with the blessings of, the original creators.

The story goes that after the huge rise in popularity of Auto Chess in Dota, Valve invited the team behind the mod, Drodo, to their offices in Seattle. Unfortunately they were unable to come to agreement about working together on Auto Chess. So Drodo returned to China to work on their mobile version, while Valve received their blessings to create a proper standalone PC version.

Valve hasn't said anything further about their version of the game other than to say that they are working on it. It will be interesting to see what they do with Auto Chess. Without the mind share in the Chinese market, it may not be the mega-hit they are hoping for. However, the game is quite addicting and having it separate from the Dota 2 client may bring in more players.

Of course, it's also not confirmed that it will be available on Linux but it's a pretty safe bet at this point.
